Free Dermatology Clinic for Citizens
From Dry Skin to Itching and Eczema
On the 27th, Jeongeup City Public Health Center in Jeollabuk-do collaborated with the Jeollabuk-do branch of the Korea Hansen Welfare Association to provide free dermatology consultations to citizens.
The free consultation was held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the health education room on the 2nd floor of Jeongeup City Public Health Center, serving about 60 local residents who visited. It received great response as general skin disease consultations were provided. The goal was early detection and treatment of skin diseases.
Specialized medical staff from the Jeollabuk-do branch of the Korea Hansen Welfare Association participated in the consultation. They treated Hansen’s disease and other general skin conditions, providing free prescriptions. Treatments mainly addressed skin dryness and itching due to aging, athlete’s foot, and eczema.

The city health center has been conducting consultations in odd-numbered months since January this year. So far, about 430 citizens have benefited from free dermatology consultations. The next free consultation will be held on November 20.
One resident who completed the free consultation said, "After receiving prescribed medication during the free dermatology consultation in July, the effect was good, so I visited again, and my skin itching has greatly improved." They added, "I am grateful for this service and have been spreading the word to nearby acquaintances."
Meanwhile, early detection and treatment of various skin diseases, including Hansen’s disease, are very important. Hansen’s disease is a chronic infectious disease caused by infection with Mycobacterium leprae. It affects the skin and nerves, and without proper treatment, neurological complications such as numbness in the limbs and disabilities can occur.
Son Hee-kyung, director of the health center, said, "We plan to continue providing free dermatology consultations for citizens’ health," and added, "We will continue to strive to improve the health and welfare of Jeongeup citizens."
