40s Man Who Sexually Harassed Three Mothers and Daughters Overnight Finally Caught

A neighbor man who committed sexual crimes overnight against a woman in her 30s and her two teenage daughters, who had come to visit his home due to their usual acquaintance, was sentenced to a suspended prison term.

On the 27th, the Criminal Division 1 of the Yeongwol Branch of Chuncheon District Court sentenced Mr. A, a man in his 40s who was indicted without detention on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, etc. (forcible molestation and quasi-forcible molestation of minors under 13) and quasi-forcible molestation, to three years in prison with a five-year suspension, according to a report by Yonhap News Agency on the same day. The court also ordered Mr. A to perform 120 hours of community service, attend 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures, and imposed a five-year employment restriction at institutions related to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities.

Mr. A was brought to trial on charges of forcibly molesting Ms. B, a woman in her 30s who came to visit his apartment on December 3, 2023, at around 8:34 p.m., after drinking alcohol together while having a meal. The indictment states that at around 10:30 p.m. on the night of the incident, Mr. A called Ms. B’s younger daughter, who was watching a movie alone in the living room of his home, and molested her twice by stroking her body on the bed. At that time, Ms. B and her older daughter were sleeping in a small room.

After molesting Ms. B’s younger daughter, who then went to Mr. A’s home, Mr. A proceeded to molest the older daughter who was in the small room. He lay beside the older daughter and touched her body as if stroking it, but the older daughter pretended to be asleep and resisted Mr. A’s molestation. Mr. A’s misconduct did not stop there. He lay down next to Ms. B, pulled down her pants, and kissed her pelvis. The next day, Ms. B informed her husband of the incident and reported it to the police. She was horrified to learn that Mr. A, a neighbor with whom she had a usual acquaintance, had molested not only herself but also her two young daughters.

The court pointed out, "The defendant’s crime is of a particularly bad nature and highly blameworthy as he committed sexual crimes against an acquaintance who came to visit his home and her children." Regarding the sentencing reasons, the court explained, "However, the crime was not committed intentionally or with premeditation, the defendant reached an amicable settlement with the victims, and he relocated his residence to aid the emotional recovery of the minor victims, which were taken into consideration in sentencing." The prosecution appealed the first trial verdict, citing inappropriate sentencing among other reasons.
