Chuncheon-si, First Designation on the 27th Since Relaxation in May
Benefits Such as Improvement of Store Surroundings and Application for Onnuri Gift Certificate Franchise
Chuncheon City (Mayor Yuk Dong-han) announced on the 27th that two shopping districts near the main gate of Hallym University have been designated as alley-type shopping districts.
The newly designated alley-type shopping districts are ▲Dwitdeul (area around 847, Hupyeong-dong, Chuncheon City) and ▲Hallym University (area around 157-26, Gyodong, Chuncheon City). Dwitdeul shopping district has 118 stores, and Hallym University shopping district has 95 stores.
Yuk Dong-han, Mayor of Chuncheon (center), designated two shopping districts near the main gate of Hallym University as alley-type shopping streets on the 27th, handed over the designation certificates, and took a commemorative photo with the merchants. Once designated as alley-type shopping districts, they can participate in national and provincial alley projects such as facility modernization projects and shopping district revitalization support projects. Additionally, they can apply to become affiliated stores for Onnuri gift certificates, which is expected to further revitalize the commercial areas.
This designation is the first case since the relaxation of designation criteria in May. Originally, the criteria for alley-type shopping district designation required at least 30 small business stores within a total area of 2,000㎡ or less, but this has been relaxed to 25 or more stores. In particular, the requirement for consent from more than half of the land and building owners at the time of application has been removed.
The areas of Dwitdeul shopping district and Hallym University shopping district are 6,971.312㎡ and 5,606.961㎡, respectively. Also, among the 118 stores in Dwitdeul, 83 agreed, and among the 95 stores in Hallym University, 67 agreed.
So far, although merchant associations have wanted alley-type shopping district designation, they could not apply for support projects due to not meeting the criteria, so the number of designated shopping districts is expected to increase in the future.
Mayor Yuk Dong-han of Chuncheon said, “With the designation of alley-type shopping districts, small business owners who have been marginalized will have opportunities to receive support, and furthermore, it will bring vitality to the alleys.” He added, “Along with additional designations of alley-type shopping districts, we will actively promote various support projects to strengthen competitiveness.”
Meanwhile, Mayor Yuk Dong-han delivered the designation certificates for the alley-type shopping districts in the presence of about 10 members of the shopping district merchant associations.
