During the Armed Forces Day event on the 1st of next month, military transport buses and armored units such as K2 tanks will move from Seoul Airport along the route through Heolleung-ro, Yangjae-daero, Dongjak-daero, Hyeonchung-ro, and Hangang-daero. Accordingly, all lanes in the direction of travel will be closed from 1:40 PM to 3:20 PM on that day.
Specifically, the armored unit’s route will be closed to general vehicles and route buses, and route buses on this section will operate only up to the nearest subway station before turning back. Gwacheon-daero (Gwanmun Intersection to Sadang Station) and Dongjak-daero (Sadang Station to Isu Station to Isu Intersection) will have all lanes in the direction of travel closed for traffic control. Traffic in both directions will be restricted on Hyeonchung-ro from Isu Intersection to Hyeonchungwon, and vehicles using Dongjak Bridge will also face travel restrictions.
However, to minimize pedestrian inconvenience during the armored unit’s movement, pedestrians will be encouraged to use underground passages or overpasses, and pedestrian safety will be ensured to allow quick crossing and reduce public inconvenience.
Additionally, the parade route along Sejong-daero from Sungnyemun to Gwanghwamun will be closed to traffic in both directions from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. As a result, vehicles traveling through the downtown area will be guided to detour via Namdaemun-ro (Jongno 1-ga to Euljiro Entrance to Bank of Korea to Sungnyemun) and Tongil-ro (Seodaemun to Uiju). For Seosomun-ro (from the Police Agency to City Hall), vehicle traffic will resume around 4:30 PM, when the parade concludes.
A Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency official stated, "Significant traffic congestion is expected due to the large-scale movement of armored units and the downtown parade," and urged, "Please use public transportation such as the subway and refrain from driving in the downtown area."
