Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation and Yangju City held a demonstration event on the 27th at the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation headquarters to announce the launch of the drone delivery service as part of the '2024 Drone Demonstration City Construction Project.'
The event was attended by Min Kyung-sun, President of Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, Kang Su-hyun, Mayor of Yangju City, consortium partners including drone delivery company BCD ENC Co., Ltd., and Lee Young-joo, member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, to celebrate the start of the service.
Starting with the 2024 project briefing session, the event featured a control demonstration at the drone delivery integrated control room located within the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation building, and concluded with a delivery demonstration from the delivery hub at Okjeong Lake Park, centered on BCD ENC Co., Ltd., a drone delivery company in Yangju City, to the delivery destination.
Min Kyung-sun, President of Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, said, “This is the first fruit achieved after signing a next-generation mobility business agreement closely connected to the region with Yangju City in November last year,” adding, “We will actively cooperate with consortium participating companies to provide safe and efficient drone delivery services.”
He also added, “Starting with this project, we will develop our capabilities in advanced mobility such as Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and autonomous driving, which the corporation is promoting, and do our best as a leader in smart transportation services.”
In response, Kang Su-hyun, Mayor of Yangju City, stated, “Our Yangju has experienced rapid population growth, ranking first nationwide in population growth rate last year, but the reality is that there is a lack of industries to support this,” and added, “We intend to foster drones as a representative industry of the city in cooperation with related companies and make it a pillar of building a self-sufficient city, Yangju.”
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation has been promoting tasks related to advanced mobility such as drones and Urban Air Mobility (UAM), including ▲holding joint seminars with the Gyeonggi Research Institute through the G+ policy platform ▲establishing a cooperation system among the province, cities/counties, and the corporation ▲and expanding aviation-related work capabilities through projects like the '2024 Drone Demonstration City Construction Project.'
In particular, it was announced that the corporation has recently been actively participating in the business model working group of UAM Team Korea (hereinafter ‘UTK’), an industry-academia-research-government policy community led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, to promote the project.
