On the 28th, Judge Choi Hyung-jun of the Criminal Division 8 at Seoul Northern District Court announced that A (25), who was tried on charges of fraud, forgery of private documents, and use of forged documents, was sentenced to 10 months in prison. B (23), who was also indicted on fraud charges along with A, received a 6-month prison sentence with a 2-year probation, and C (25), charged with forgery of private documents, was sentenced to 8 months in prison.
A, a so-called loan broker who helps people unable to obtain bank loans by manipulating documents for a fee, was indicted for recruiting workers seeking loans through social networking services (SNS) and acquaintances and receiving part of the loan amount as a commission. B and C are accused of introducing loan applicants they knew through acquaintances to A.
It was revealed that A falsely applied for worker loans by making it appear as if the applicants were working at 'ghost companies' that had never actually operated or were about to close down, and obtained loans on their behalf.
The court explained the sentencing, stating, "By abusing the Worker Livelihood Stabilization Fund Loan System and obtaining worker loans through forged documents, the defendant caused harm to the financial order and damaged the public's trust in the Worker Livelihood Stabilization Fund Loan System. This constitutes a social crime that also harms vulnerable groups who genuinely intend to use the system, and the nature of the crime is serious."
