Economic Cooperation with Vietnam Economic Development Institute Delegation

City-Gumi Chamber of Commerce-IED, Public-Private-Academic Collaboration Meeting

On the 26th, the city of Gumi in North Gyeongsang Province welcomed a delegation from the Institute for Economics and Development (IED) of Vietnam to discuss ongoing cooperation between the two countries.

The delegation, consisting of 15 members from the Vietnam Association of Science and Technology, the Institute for Economics and Development, Vietnamese businesspeople, and educational institutions, visited the city.


The Institute for Economics and Development is an intellectual organization under the Vietnam Association of Science and Technology. It serves as a leading private institution conducting scientific research, promoting investment, and providing consulting for domestic and international companies investing in Vietnam.


On this day, the city of Gumi held a meeting with the Vietnamese delegation. Mayor Kim Jangho stated, "Korea and Vietnam have been deepening cooperation in various fields such as economic and trade relations, culture and the arts, and human exchanges," adding, "I hope the Institute for Economics and Development will show interest in and support the business activities of the 44 Gumi companies operating in Vietnam."


In response, Hoang Van Pho, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Institute for Economics and Development, and Nguyen Trong Uyen, Director of the Institute, expressed their gratitude for Gumi's hospitality and conveyed their hope to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Gumi partners. In addition, the delegation visited local businesses in Gumi and the birthplace of President Park Chunghee to learn about Korea's economic development history.


That evening, the Gumi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairman Yoon Jaeho) hosted an economic exchange meeting with the Institute for Economics and Development. Around 50 participants, including representatives from Gumi companies operating in Vietnam, attended to discuss close information sharing and collaboration between the private sector, government, and research institutes in the fields of economy, investment, culture, and tourism.

Notably, Park Hangseo, former head coach of the Vietnam national football team, also attended the meeting, serving as a bridge to promote exchanges between business leaders from both countries.


Gumi is continuously expanding its exchange and cooperation with Vietnam, which is one of Korea's top three trading partners and the largest investment destination for Gumi-based companies. Going forward, the city plans to further strengthen partnerships for joint development in various areas such as economy, culture, education, technology, and human exchanges, and to broaden opportunities for mutual exchange.
