Intensive Management from 1:00 PM to 10:30 PM on October 5, with 9 Departments and 3 Response Teams Formed
Mapodaegyo North End and Maposaebit Munhwa Forest Designated as Vulnerable Areas for Focused Safety Management

Mapo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Gang-su) is preparing thorough measures to ensure the Seoul International Fireworks Festival, which attracts over one million visitors annually, concludes safely.

Although the festival is held at Yeouido Hangang Park, the measures consider the influx of crowds into Mapo-gu as people seek to avoid congestion at the event site while enjoying the Yeouido night view and fireworks festival together.

Mapo-gu has designated the northern end of Mapo Bridge and Mapo Saebit Cultural Forest as expected crowd concentration areas and plans to strengthen safety management in vulnerable locations.

Intensive safety management will be conducted on the festival day, October 5, from 1:00 PM to 10:30 PM.

The district will establish safety management response teams including a general team, safety team, and support team, deploying a total of 130 safety personnel to manage the site.

The general team, composed of the Citizen Safety Division and Administrative Support Division, will monitor the situation in real-time through the Disaster Safety Situation Room and the CCTV Integrated Control Center, conducting surveillance activities and overseeing overall management.

The safety team, consisting of professional safety management companies, the Park and Greenery Division, and the Economic Promotion Division, will guide crowd dispersion for the safety of festival attendees and support orderly dispersal after the festival ends.

The support team, made up of five departments including the Parking Management Division, Pedestrian Administration Division, and Public Health Center, will enforce illegal parking regulations, clear pedestrian obstacles such as street deposits, and prepare for emergency situations.

In particular, 50 specialized safety personnel will be deployed at the northern end of Mapo Bridge, where large crowds are expected, to control road access with high accident risk and to encourage citizens to disperse sequentially.

Additionally, the district operates the ‘Safe Mapo Hotline’ through an emergency communication system with related agencies such as the police and fire department to enable rapid response.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “Safety is better when it is excessive,” and added, “We will do our best in safety management so that all residents visiting Mapo can enjoy the fireworks festival safely.”
