Another informant said, "These days, it says Sin-young invested 349,000 won on a certain site and made a big profit, and that the police even conducted a raid after this was revealed," adding, "I tried to join the site trusting Sin-young, but I received a call from overseas. There was also a photo of Sin-young posted. Is this a smishing scam unrelated to her?"
Kim Sin-young stated, "(The impersonation damage) is serious. I will take strong action," indicating a firm response.
Recently, illegal posts impersonating celebrities to demand money or induce investments have been spreading online. In response, impersonation victims such as broadcasters Yoo Jae-suk and Song Eun-i, and model Hong Jin-kyung formed the "Association for Solving Celebrity Impersonation Online Phishing Crimes" (Yusamo) to urge resolution of impersonation phishing crimes.
At a press conference in March, Yusamo announced a statement estimating that the damage caused by online phishing crimes impersonating celebrities exceeds 1 trillion won, calling on platforms and the government to resolve the issue. The statement was supported by a total of 137 celebrities, including broadcasters Kim Young-chul and Haha; actors Kim Nam-gil, Kim Ah-joong, Ahn Moon-sook, Jin Sun-kyu, Choi Kang-hee, Shin Ae-ra, and Kim Ho-young; and singers Uhm Jung-hwa, Insooni, Byul, Hyolyn, and Baek Ji-young.
