The '2024 Jeonnam Disabled Sports for All Festival,' a grand sports event promoting unity and cooperation between people with and without disabilities, opened on the 26th in Wando, kicking off two days of intense competition.
Under the slogan "Let's Run Together as One on the Healing Island Wando!", the event was grandly inaugurated with cheers from 1,622 athletes and officials from 22 cities and counties. This competition features fierce contests across 13 sports, including gateball, badminton, lawn bowls, boccia, athletics, and park golf.
At the opening ceremony, Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok encouraged the athletes and expressed special gratitude to the organizers who prepared this meaningful event uniting people with and without disabilities, as well as to the citizens of Wando County.
Governor Kim said, "The pure passion and fiery spirit of challenge from disabled athletes deeply inspire the 2 million residents of the province," adding, "We will actively support them so they can fully enjoy sports activities and lead vibrant daily lives."
The 2024 Jeonnam Disabled Sports for All Festival also features a pre-event performance by a famous trot singer and various experiential events. It is expected that, in addition to the 1,142 athletes and 480 officials, athletes' families visiting Wando will contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
