A story has emerged about a woman troubled after her fianc? exchanged words of "I love you" with his sister-in-law.

On the 25th, JTBC's "Case Chief" reported on a woman, Ms. A, who is experiencing conflict with her fianc? due to suspicious behavior. According to the report, Ms. A has been living together with her fianc? after meeting him a year ago and promising to marry. Recently, the four of them?Ms. A, her fianc?, his older brother, and his sister-in-law?went on a trip together. At night, Ms. A and the older brother went to their respective rooms to rest, while the fianc? and sister-in-law stayed together in the living room for quite some time.

Unable to sleep, Ms. A overheard the sister-in-law saying "I love you" to her fianc?. The fianc? responded with "I love you too," which shocked Ms. A. She questioned whether it was appropriate for a brother-in-law and sister-in-law to exchange such expressions of love. After returning home, when Ms. A confronted her fianc?, saying, "Was it a mistake caused by drinking? At least explain," he replied harshly, "I said it sober. You are the one who lacks understanding," and added, "I don't care that your feelings are hurt, nor do I want to know." Ultimately, Ms. A decided it was too difficult to maintain the relationship and left the home they shared.

Psychological counselor Park Sang-hee commented, "Some people do not use the phrase 'I love you' solely to express romantic love between men and women. After a drink, they might say 'I love you' just because they feel good," adding, "Of course, if the girlfriend dislikes it, the proper thing is to explain that it did not mean that and apologize." Lawyer Park Ji-hoon also empathized, saying, "We need to consider not only this incident but other circumstances as well," and suggested, "It might be a family atmosphere where saying 'I love you' frequently and casually is normal. It would be good to ask the man's older brother for confirmation." On the other hand, former Seoul Police Agency International Crime Investigation Team Chief Kim Eun-bae argued, "It is suspicious that the words were spoken when they were alone, not when everyone was together," and insisted, "'I love you' is a phrase that should not be used carelessly. Family etiquette must be respected."

Netizens who read the story responded with comments such as, "Anyone can see it's suspicious," "It's better to break up with such a man," "If even one person could misunderstand, it's better not to do it," and "There are people who overuse the phrase 'I love you,' too."
