Shares Updates on GB Area Issues and Strategic Projects

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam recently visited the National Assembly in Yeouido, led by Deputy Mayor Cho Myeongrae, to meet with National Assembly members Choi Hyoungdu, Yoon Hanhong, Kim Jongyang, and Lee Jongwook in succession, sharing information on local pending issues and strategic projects at the parliamentary level and requesting cooperation.

In particular, they also visited the office of Yoon Youngseok, the only member from Gyeongnam on the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, to actively request cooperation for the selection of strategic projects.

The national and regional strategic projects are part of President Yoon Sukyeol's regulatory innovation plan for greenbelt areas, allowing the release of areas with Environmental Assessment Grades 1 and 2, which were previously impossible to lift, if the projects pass the State Council. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport revised its guidelines last May, completed written evaluations and on-site inspections by August, and plans to make the final selection through the State Council this December.

The city applied last June for seven strategic projects as national and regional strategic projects for greenbelt areas: ▲Creation of Changwon Defense and Nuclear Fusion National Industrial Complex ▲Creation of Logistics Industrial Complex behind the Defense and Nuclear National Industrial Complex ▲Development of Jinhae New Port Hinterland Complex ▲Development of Southeast Region Urban High-Tech Logistics Complex ▲Creation of Changwon Urban Convergence Technology (R&D) Complex ▲Development of Urban Living Mixed-Use Complex ▲Smart Senior Medical Specialized Mixed-Use Complex.

Deputy Mayor Cho stated, "If selected as national and regional strategic projects, it will enable the efficient utilization of greenbelt areas, providing quality jobs, residential conditions, and cultural welfare environments that allow young people who are moving to the metropolitan area to settle in the provinces, which is very important as it creates an opportunity for local areas to become innovation hubs on their own."
