On the 26th, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced this AI strategy policy direction at the 1st National AI Committee meeting chaired by President Yoon Seok-yeol. The government judged that the AI technology revolution will determine the national economy and security, and plans to strengthen AI competitiveness through public-private cooperation to leap into one of the top three AI powers.

The government will promote a nationwide AI transformation, improve the investment environment in the private sector, and support companies' entry into the global market. The policy directions include ▲expanding startups and talent ▲innovation in technology and infrastructure ▲creating an inclusive and fair foundation ▲securing global leadership.

First, the national AI computing infrastructure will be significantly expanded. Preparing for the AI era, the scale of the latest GPUs will be increased more than 15 times, and early commercialization of domestic AI semiconductors will be supported. Based on public-private joint investment, a 'National AI Computing Center' with a scale of up to 2 trillion won will be established. Domestic AI semiconductors such as NPUs and PIMs will be introduced to foster the domestic AI computing ecosystem through specialized technology development.

From this year for four years, the private sector will invest a total of 65 trillion won in the AI field, and the government will support the activation of private investment. The government plans to review tax support measures and expand policy financial support such as the creation of large-scale funds. A major transformation will be promoted so that AI can be utilized across the nation in industry, public sector, society, regions, and defense.

Specifically, the plans include ▲measures for eight major industries such as manufacturing, finance, and medical bio ▲AI services in 18 public sectors that citizens can feel ▲transformation of public education through the introduction of AI digital textbooks ▲innovation of AI-based medical systems. The plan is to create an economic effect of 310 trillion won by 2026 by improving the overall economic structure.

The government will promote nurturing 10 AI unicorn companies and securing 200,000 talents by 2030. While enhancing on-device AI competitiveness, it will support new industries through innovation in personal information regulations. Through the Special Act on Expansion of National Core Strategic Networks, it will respond to AI traffic and power demand. While leading global AI governance discussions, it will also prepare measures to prevent unfair discrimination or privacy infringement caused by AI. The 'AI Safety Research Institute' will be established in November as a national dedicated agency to systematically respond to AI risks, and the 'AI Basic Act' will be enacted within the year to achieve a balanced development of AI advancement, safety, and trust.

President Yoon emphasized, "The National AI Committee will serve as a hub for public-private cooperation that gathers nationwide innovation capabilities, leading the AI transformation that determines the nation's fate, and together we will design and realize the future 30 years led by AI."
