A passenger who was threatened by a taxi driver and refused service after boarding the taxi has come forward with their story.
On the 24th, the YouTube channel 'Han Moon-cheol TV' reported on an incident recently experienced by a woman, Ms. A, in Daegu. The informant, Ms. A, said, "I called a taxi using an app called 'Daegu-ro' and got in," and added, "But the driver was watching a movie inside the car." She explained the situation, saying, "Even after starting to drive, he continued watching, so I asked him to turn off the movie. Then he stopped the car on a road with a red light and threatened me to get out." She added, "The driver shouted and even cursed at me," and "When I checked the next day, I found out he had charged me the fare."
The video Ms. A submitted shows the driver sitting in the driver's seat saying in a coercive tone, "Just get out. Before I drag you out," as she gets out of the car. When Ms. A asked, "Do you think it's okay to play videos while driving?" the driver opened the rear door and shouted, "I don't want to touch you, so get out. I won't charge you, so get out. Call customer service or report to the police, do whatever you want." He also said, "Isn't this my car? Why are you picking a fight with me for no reason?" Ms. A said, "I didn't get out of the taxi and reported to the police, but the police just let the driver go," and expressed frustration, "When I checked the next day, the taxi fare had been charged."
In response, lawyer Han Moon-cheol explained, "Watching videos such as DMB while driving results in a fine of 60,000 won and 12 penalty points," and added, "Forcing Ms. A to get out can be seen as an unjustified refusal of service, so a penalty can be imposed." Netizens who saw the video reacted with comments such as, "Drivers like that should have their licenses revoked," "I don't understand the police just letting him go," "Forcing a passenger to get out in the middle of the road is unacceptable," and "Passengers have the right to ride safely."
