Born on September 3, 1949, in Gwangyang, Seo graduated from Suncheon High School and Seoul National University with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. He joined Daewoo Heavy Industries and was first assigned to a forklift production plant. While researching cases in advanced countries to expand the forklift market, he discovered that the introduction of pallets?wooden platforms for cargo loading?the standardization of their specifications, and the establishment of a shared-use system were key to sustaining the logistics ecosystem. However, despite submitting a business plan after returning to Korea, progress was somewhat slow.

After resigning from Daewoo Heavy Industries, Seo Byung-ryun founded the Logistics Research Institute in 1984 and Korea Pallet Pool in 1985, followed by the establishment of Korea Container Pool and Korea Logis Pool, carrying a blueprint for logistics innovation in Korea.

The company he started with 8 million won received upon leaving Daewoo Heavy Industries has grown into LOGISALL Group, which operates under the management philosophy of "Realizing New Logistics, Creating Value, and Coexistence and Prosperity." The group achieved sales of 1.6206 trillion won in 2021, 1.9492 trillion won in 2022, and 2.0583 trillion won in 2023, becoming a leading enterprise.

Seo Byung-ryun, a pioneer in Korea’s logistics sector, shared the journey of his continuous efforts toward vision and technological innovation for building a 100-year company during this special lecture organized to explore win-win cooperation plans among Gwangyang City, LOGISALL Group, and local companies in Gwangyang, the logistics hub of Korea.

The lecture focused on ▲the value of logistics ▲the development and current state of logistics ▲and Foldcon containers (*foldable containers that can be reduced to one-quarter of their height, expected to drastically reduce existing logistics costs such as operation and transportation costs to one-quarter). Seo emphasized to the attending students of Korea Port Logistics High School the spirit of challenge and courage to boldly dive into any one field.

A student from Korea Port Logistics High School who attended the lecture said, “I cannot imagine how many difficulties and hardships the logistics pioneer must have overcome,” and “Listening to a lecture from someone with practical experience made me realize anew how high and important the future value of the port logistics field I am studying is.” The student added, “I will follow the chairman’s example and devote myself to my studies with greater confidence.”

Jeong In-hwa, mayor of Gwangyang City, expressed gratitude, saying, “I thank Chairman Seo Byung-ryun of LOGISALL Group for giving this special lecture for the development of Gwangyang Port despite his busy schedule.” He emphasized, “For Gwangyang Port to be reborn as the largest port in Northeast Asia in the 21st century, it is necessary for all stakeholders to unite their efforts based on the spirit of coexistence and prosperity emphasized by Chairman Seo.”

Meanwhile, in December last year, Gwangyang City, Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority, and LOGISALL Group signed a business agreement to establish a global integrated logistics base at Gwangyang Port covering all stages of production, operation, storage, and import/export of Foldcon (foldable containers), the future logistics core. The establishment of a special container cluster is expected to greatly contribute to the advancement of cutting-edge port logistics technology and the development of Gwangyang City.
