The special advisory group consists of 15 members, including committee members recommended by major associations and organizations to identify demand-driven solutions for challenges in forestry and forest products industries, as well as the Youth Special Chairman of the Korea Forest Service.
They are responsible for gathering opinions on technologies needed in the forestry field and proposing representative demand technologies. The activity period is until the second half of this year.
The technology demands proposed by the special advisory group will be reflected in the pre-planning of next year’s forest science and technology research and development (R&D) projects and used to respond to budget reviews.
Through this, the Korea Forestry Promotion Institute expects to strengthen the connection between ‘field-research-policy’ and solve technical problems faced on site.
R&D projects are planned based on technology demand surveys submitted to the integrated cross-ministerial research support system. However, forestry and forest products industry workers have consistently raised issues regarding difficulties in using this system due to tight work schedules and aging.
The special advisory group is organized and operates to resolve these issues and serve as a channel to collect and convey the voices from the forestry field.
Choi Mu-yeol, President of the Korea Forestry Promotion Institute, said, “The special advisory group will play a stepping stone role in solving problems arising in the forestry field through science and technology,” adding, “Through this, we will promote the sustainable development of forestry and forest products industries.”
