Changwon Special City, Jinhae Family Center Upgraded and Secures 500 Million KRW in National and Provincial Funds Annually

'A Remarkable Achievement 15 Years After the Integration of Changwon City'

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced on the 26th that the Jinhae Branch of the Changwon Family Center will be upgraded to the Jinhae Family Center starting in 2025, making it eligible to receive more than 500 million KRW in national and provincial funding annually.

This achievement comes 15 years after the integration of Changwon City, laying the foundation for expanding universal and comprehensive family services not only for multicultural families but also for all residents of Jinhae District.

Changwon Special City, Jinhae Family Center Upgraded and Secures 500 Million KRW in National and Provincial Funds Annually Hong Nampyo, Changwon Special Mayor.

At the time of administrative integration in 2010, the Jinhae area did not have a family center, which caused inconvenience as residents had to use the family center in the Changwon area. In the 8th popularly elected administration, the project was finally selected as a campaign pledge, and in May last year, the Jinhae Branch of the Changwon Family Center was opened in the Yongwon area, where many multicultural families reside.

However, as a branch, there were limitations in providing a wide range of services, so continuous requests were made to upgrade the center and secure national funding. Nevertheless, the central government maintained its position that only one center could be established per city or county.

Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, held a breakfast meeting in July with local National Assembly members to share the necessity of major projects and strengthen cooperation in order to upgrade the Jinhae Family Center and secure national funding.

In addition, in line with the national fiscal management plan and the central government's budget planning stage, the city has actively visited central government ministries and the Ministry of Economy and Finance to explain the project and respond to budget deliberations. Lee Jongwook, the National Assembly member representing the Jinhae district, also provided strong support.

Mayor Hong stated, "We will strive to ensure that the Masan, Changwon, and Jinhae Family Centers become spaces where families can harmonize through balanced family services, promote intercultural exchange, and foster family happiness."
