Gyeonggi-do Climate Policy Introduced in New York... Climate Ambassador Kang Geum-sil Attends Forum Kang Geum-sil, Gyeonggi Province Climate Ambassador (second from the right), is attending a forum and discussing Gyeonggi Province's climate policies.

Gyeonggi Province's climate policy was introduced in New York, USA.

On the 26th, Gyeonggi Province announced that Kang Geum-sil, the province's climate ambassador, participated in the '2024 Climate Week NYC' held in New York, USA, and introduced Gyeonggi's climate policies, including the Climate Response Fund.

Climate Week NYC is an event hosted by The Climate Group, the world's largest nonprofit international organization in the global climate crisis field. Starting with the opening ceremony on the 22nd (local time), global climate leaders discussed solutions to the climate crisis through events such as Hub Live and the Under2 Coalition high-level meeting on the 23rd, and the BOGA (Beyond Oil & Gas Alliance) meeting on the 24th. The event runs until the 26th.

Ambassador Kang Geum-sil participated in the Hub Live discussion held under the theme "Capital for Change, Climate funding: Tackling Accessibility," where she introduced Gyeonggi Province's independent financial efforts, including the Climate Response Fund, Carbon Neutral Fund, and promotion of climate insurance.

At the Under2 Coalition high-level officials meeting, Ambassador Kang introduced Gyeonggi's achievements in renewable energy policies, such as attracting 4 trillion KRW worth of RE100 investments in industrial complexes and increasing renewable energy generation, and explained the province's key future climate policy vision.

This year’s Climate Week NYC particularly emphasized the role of local governments in the process of setting national greenhouse gas reduction targets (NDC) and the phased elimination of fossil fuels, with financial sectors such as climate finance being a major agenda.

Ambassador Kang will participate in the BOGA (Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance) meeting, the local government leadership meeting for fossil fuel transition hosted by Quebec, Canada, and the high-level officials meeting (Scale Summit) hosted by the U.S. Department of State until the 26th.
