Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced on the 26th that it was selected as the best district by ranking first among 25 autonomous districts in Seoul in the '2023 Comprehensive Evaluation of Autonomous District Environmental Management Status.'
The 'Comprehensive Evaluation of Environmental Management Status' is a system in which Seoul evaluates autonomous districts on their capabilities in managing facilities that emit environmental pollutants, public-private collaboration, and other environmental management aspects.
In this evaluation, the district scored a total of 83.5 points, ranking first, with ▲56 points out of 60 for environmental management of pollutant-emitting facilities ▲18.5 points out of 30 for delegated task management and supervision ▲9 points out of 10 for collaboration management. In particular, efforts to improve the environment through public-private cooperation received high praise. Specifically, the district conducted joint public-private inspections targeting pollutant-emitting facilities together with residents and environmental organizations.
They guided the proper operation of pollution prevention facilities and waste storage methods, imposed fines on businesses found violating regulations, thereby enhancing the effectiveness and transparency of inspections. Additionally, the district contributed to improving the pleasant local environment by planting trees near Banghwa-dong and conducting purification activities in Anyangcheon Stream together with businesses emitting environmental pollutants.
As a result of this achievement, the district will receive institutional and individual commendations from Seoul City, as well as individual commendations and a reward of 2 million KRW from the Ministry of Environment.
District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “This achievement is the result of recognized efforts in environmental management through smooth public-private cooperation,” and added, “We will continue to actively strive to prevent environmental pollution accidents and preserve a pleasant living environment.”
