Ambassador Jeong Jae-ho emphasized on the 25th that South Korea and China must maintain mutual respect and communication even in difficult situations.
In his greeting speech at the Gaecheonjeol and Armed Forces Day reception held at the Ambassador's residence in Beijing on the 25th, Ambassador Jeong said, "This year marks the 32nd anniversary of diplomatic relations, and above all, mutual respect is important between South Korea and China, who are neighbors, friends, and partners."
He added, "To achieve this, careful attention and effort are required, and communication channels must be kept open even during difficult times."
He then referred to the South Korea-China summit held during the 2022 G20 Leaders' Summit in Bali, Indonesia, the meeting between Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and Chinese President Xi Jinping in September last year, and the meeting between President Yoon Suk-yeol and Chinese Premier Li Qiang held in Seoul this May, stating, "South Korea and China are maintaining the momentum of high-level exchanges well."
Sun Weidong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs representing the Chinese government at the reception, said, "In the past two years, China-Korea relations have experienced some twists and turns, but the major direction of friendship and cooperation between the two countries has not changed and should not change," adding, "The efforts of both countries to improve and develop China-Korea relations have never stopped."
