A Four-Story Building with a Total Area of 10,000㎡... Scheduled for Completion in 2026
Expected Total Investment of 39.6 Billion KRW Including National and Provincial Funds
Planned Construction of Director's Office, Viewing Room, Education Center, and Exhibition Hall
The groundbreaking ceremony for the country's first dedicated Baduk stadium was held on the 25th in Howon-dong, Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi Province. The country's first dedicated Baduk (Go) stadium will be established in Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province.
The city began construction on the 25th of a Baduk-only stadium covering a total area of 10,000㎡ on the site of the former military intelligence unit, aiming for completion in August 2026.
The building will have one basement floor and four above-ground floors, with a total investment of 39.6 billion KRW, combining national and provincial funds. Inside the stadium, various game rooms, viewing rooms, education rooms, and exhibition halls will be installed, along with a media room for game broadcasting and reception rooms.
The Baduk stadium construction project is the first construction agency project undertaken by the Uijeongbu Urban Corporation, established in March. Previously, Gyeonggi Province, Uijeongbu City, and the Korea Baduk Association signed an agreement in September 2020 to build the dedicated Baduk stadium.
Gyeonggi Province will provide administrative and financial support for the stadium construction, while Uijeongbu City will secure the site, funding, and oversee the construction.
The Korea Baduk Association will host various tournaments and work to improve resident education and leisure activities, and plans to relocate its office from Seongdong-gu, Seoul, to Uijeongbu.
Once the dedicated stadium opens, it is expected to enhance the city's brand value through Baduk as a global cultural content sport and expand cultural and economic exchanges. With domestic and international Baduk tournaments held approximately 290 days a year, visits by players, families, and officials are also expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
