"More than two-thirds of Guri citizens support incorporation into Seoul"

Mayor Baek Gyeong-hyeon Holds Communication Meeting on GTX-B Line Stopping at Galmae Station On the 24th, Guri City held a communication meeting with the Galmae New Town Association to discuss the progress and future plans of major pending projects such as transportation in the Galmae District and the Galmae Station Area Public Housing District.

The city of Guri, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun) announced on the 25th that it held a communication meeting on the 24th with the Galmae New Town Association (President Lee Sang-cheon) to discuss the progress and future plans of major pending projects such as transportation in the Galmae district and the Galmae Station area public housing district.


The meeting was attended by about 20 people, including Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri, city officials, Lee Sang-cheon, president of the Galmae New Town Association, and the association's executives.


A city official stated, “The promotion of the GTX-B line stopping at Galmae Station is progressing smoothly as the budget for the cause-bearer fee for the feasibility verification service by the Korea National Railway Corporation has been secured. We plan to actively consult with Gyeonggi Province and Namyangju City to resolve difficulties related to movement routes and bicycle use to improve accessibility to Byeollae Station on Line 8.”


Regarding incorporation into Seoul, the official added, “We are proceeding with related procedures aiming for the enactment of a special law. A recent public opinion survey showed that more than two-thirds of Guri citizens support incorporation into Seoul. We will mobilize all administrative power to fulfill the citizens’ wishes.”


They also provided detailed explanations on local issues in Galmae-dong, including countermeasures for the closure of Galmae Circulation Road, connection of the Galmae Stream bicycle path to Wangsuk Stream, adherence to the schedule for low-noise pavement construction on Gyeongchunbuk-ro, and the promotion of the Sanodong garage site.


Notably, a representative of prospective residents of the Galmae Station area public housing district also attended the meeting, requesting the city to take active interest and closely monitor safety and thorough construction at the construction site.


Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri said, “The incorporation of Guri into Seoul will be promoted according to the will of the citizens in the direction most desired by them. We will expedite the progress of major pending issues in Galmae-dong and make every effort, including actively requesting LH to thoroughly manage the site of the Galmae Station area public housing district and to expand insufficient infrastructure.”
