Held at Mundong Breakwater Area on 28th-29th
Local Product Sales, Experience Programs, and Performances
Gijang-gun (Governor Jung Jongbok) announced on the 25th that the local free market 'Pado Market in Mundong' will be held from the 28th to the 29th around the Mundong Breakwater in Ilgwang-eup, Gijang-gun.
Mundong Village, where the Mundong Breakwater is located, is a small fishing village nestled between Imlang Beach and Chiram Port. It is known as a hidden gem for scenic drives where visitors can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the sea. In particular, the area around Mundong Village is home to kelp, seaweed, and abalone farming, while neighboring villages cultivate green onions and rice, making it a place that embodies both the charm of a fishing village and the sentiment of a rural farming community.
'Pado Market in Mundong' will take place against the backdrop of the Mundong Breakwater from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 28th and 29th. The market will feature direct sales of seaweed, kelp, and green onions grown and harvested by the people of Mundong Village, as well as a 'specialty market' showcasing local products made in Mundong and Gijang. More than 40 local creators will also present food and handmade crafts.
The market will also offer a variety of programs for visitors of all ages, including: ▲ a yoga program to enjoy together while gazing at the sea from the breakwater ▲ a participatory art program where visitors can draw with local artists using the breakwater as a giant sketchbook ▲ a children's flea market where kids can participate directly ▲ performances and exhibitions held in front of Mundong's old port ▲ and a session to follow along with health exercises created by village residents.
For more detailed information, visit the Pado Market Instagram or contact the on-site office.
'Pado Market in Mundong' is an event held as part of the Mundong Living Area 'Fishing Village New Vitalization Project' in Gijang-gun. The 'Fishing Village New Vitalization Project' is a flagship initiative by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries aimed at revitalizing local fishing villages. From 2023 to 2026, under the vision of 'Mundong Sea Garden of Recovery and Coexistence,' various projects are being carried out to breathe new life into the area around the Mundong Breakwater.
