Full Support for Priority Households Including Basic Livelihood Recipients, Up to 3.52 Million Won for General Households -
Mapo-gu, Seoul Metropolitan City (District Mayor Park Gang-su) is promoting a slate disposal support project to create a safe residential environment free from asbestos.
This project aims to protect residents' health and improve the residential environment by supporting the disposal of asbestos slate, which is known as a Group 1 carcinogen.
The support targets building owners and tenants who wish to dismantle and remove slate. Tenants can apply with the consent of the owner.
Expenses for dismantling, removing, and transporting slate used as roofing or wall materials in buildings will be supported, and applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget is exhausted.
Priority support households such as basic livelihood security recipients will receive full support, while general households can receive up to 3.52 million KRW per building. Costs exceeding the support amount must be borne by the building owner.
Priority support households are selected in the order of basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty class, and other vulnerable groups, while general households are selected within the remaining budget after supporting priority households. However, immediate demolition support is possible if there is a concern about harm to the human body due to asbestos dispersion.
Residents who wish to apply can fill out the application form posted on the Mapo-gu Office website and submit it via email, or visit or mail it to the Clean Environment Division on the 10th floor of the district office.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “Through the slate disposal support project, we will create a safer residential environment and carefully examine whether there are any elements threatening residents' safety around us to make Mapo-gu a place where everyone can live with peace of mind.”
