Middle School Girls Coming for Hair Extensions
Repeatedly Asked but Lied, "Got Consent"
Student's Mother Claims "It's Fraud if No Refund"
A hairstylist who trusted a middle school girl’s word and performed hair extensions faced conflict with the student’s parents.
Recently, JTBC's 'Case Manager' reported the story of owner A, who runs a hair extension specialty salon in a provincial area. According to the report, on the 11th, A received a reservation inquiry from two middle school girls. He informed the students that "minors must have parental consent," and the students replied, "Both of us have obtained consent."
The next morning, the students visited the salon early, saying, "We left early because we were in pain." Although A felt suspicious, he reconfirmed whether parental consent was given and proceeded with the hair extension procedure until around 3 p.m. During the procedure, he again asked the students, "Are you sure you have your parents’ consent?" The two middle school girls answered, "Our father told us to pay in installments." They each paid 440,000 won and 400,000 won for the procedure using their parents’ cards and then left the salon.
However, shortly after, one student’s mother, B, called A. She said, "The children never got permission for the hair extensions," and "My husband went crazy because of the recent payment." It turned out the students had lied, claiming they needed to buy academy textbooks to get the card. B threatened, saying, "If you don’t refund the payment made without parental consent, it will be considered fraud," and "If you say it’s the children’s responsibility, we will take legal action. We will also charge for the cost of removing the hair extensions." B even visited the store, demanding the receipt and saying, "If you don’t give it, we will sue." Eventually, A processed the refund.
Attorney Yang Ji-yeol commented, "If the student had bought expensive clothes, it would be a simple matter. Return the clothes and the money, and the case is closed," but added, "The problem is that the hairstylist’s labor and materials were involved, so that money is separate." He continued, "Since the client is a minor, the contract should be canceled and the procedure fee refunded, but in this case, the hairstylist’s labor cost arose because of the children’s lies, so there is a possibility of separately claiming that amount," explaining, "There may be parts for which the guardian is responsible."
Netizens who read the story reacted with comments such as, "It’s unfortunate that only the hairstylist suffers because of a misunderstanding," "The students really have no sense," and "The parents are shameless even though it’s their children who did wrong."
