Implementing Practical Policies Reflecting Youth Opinions...District Mayor Kim Kyungho: "Will Continue Communication Administration"
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) achieved the distinction of winning the Communication Award for two consecutive years at the 2024 Youth-Friendly Governance Awards.
Now in its 7th year, the 'Youth-Friendly Governance Awards' are organized by the nonprofit organization Youth and Future and are presented to outstanding local governments that implement youth-friendly policies. Notably, the awards are meaningful as they are evaluated and awarded directly by young people.
Gwangjin-gu was recognized for its efforts in the communication category, achieving excellent results once again. Since last year, the district launched an online 'Youth Portal' that enabled two-way communication, which received high praise. It has played a vital role as a channel for real-time information sharing, policy proposals, and candid discussions of practical concerns.
Additionally, participation bodies such as the 'Youth Network' and the 'Youth Policy Committee' were operated to reflect the voices of young people in district administration. In the 'Youth On-site Communication' sessions, where the district mayor and youth engage in direct dialogue, opinions were exchanged even more closely.
Moreover, practical support necessary for the youth generation was provided. Support funds for language and qualification exam fees were increased by 1.5 times, and initiatives such as youth administrative internships and youth stores were promoted to help economic independence. Programs like 'Youth Dosirak' and 'University Students’ 1,000-Won Breakfast' alleviated the food expenses burden for job seekers and received positive responses.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I believe that our efforts to listen closely to young people led to these good results. I am grateful to all the youth who contributed to the development of district administration, and I will continue to do my best to support a happy daily life by nurturing communication.”
