Microsoft (MS) announced that it will invest $1.3 billion (approximately 1.7 trillion KRW) over three years to build artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in Mexico.
According to economic media CNBC and others, Satya Nadella, MS CEO, revealed this cloud computing and AI infrastructure investment plan at an event held in Mexico City on the 24th (local time), stating, "We are working to support more capacity in Mexico."
MS's investment will focus on promoting the adoption of AI technology by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and improving connectivity. MS explained that the goal is to reach 5 million Mexican citizens and 30,000 SMEs within three years. Mexican bakery company Bimbo and cement manufacturer Cemex are already utilizing MS's AI tools.
Marcelo Ebrard, the new Mexican Minister of Economy, posted on X (formerly Twitter) after meeting with CEO Nadella, saying, "Good news for our country," and stated that through MS's investment, Mexico will be able to rapidly strengthen its AI capabilities.
