Hyundai Rotem Showcases 'Hydrogen Electric Tram' Technology in Germany... Debuts at World's Largest Railway Expo

Berlin 'InnoTrans 2024' Participation
"Strengthening Position in the Global Railroad Market"

Hyundai Rotem announced on the 25th that it will showcase various railway technologies related to hydrogen energy at InnoTrans 2024, the world's largest railway trade fair.

Now in its 14th edition, this exhibition will be held in Berlin, Germany, from the 24th (local time) to the 27th. It is expected that more than 153,000 visitors from 60 participating countries will attend this year.

Under the theme of "Transition to Eco-friendly Mobility through Hydrogen Energy," Hyundai Rotem will present hydrogen electric trams and hydrogen electric locomotives. The hydrogen electric tram is equipped with Hyundai Motor Company's hydrogen fuel cell system, enabling long-distance operation on a single charge. This tram has established a commercialization foundation through a supply contract with Daejeon City.

Additionally, Hyundai Rotem created a diorama that models the processes of hydrogen production, storage, and transportation, allowing visitors to experience the hydrogen society firsthand. This diorama includes hydrogen electric mobility as well as hydrogen extractors and hydrogen charging stations, visually representing Hyundai Rotem's comprehensive hydrogen solutions.

Hyundai Rotem will also demonstrate its technological prowess in the high-speed rail sector. At this exhibition, the KTX-Sancheon, KTX-Cheongryong, and the next-generation high-speed rail vehicle currently under development, EMU-370, will be introduced. The domestically developed high-speed rail technology, proven through exports to Uzbekistan, will also be displayed.

Railway technologies applying deep tunnel construction methods such as GTX are also attracting attention. GTX is a new concept transportation system operating more than 40 meters underground. Hyundai Rotem, in collaboration with the Korea Rail Network Authority, has prepared a K-Rail Pavilion to introduce these technologies to overseas markets.

Furthermore, Hyundai Rotem has placed double-decker electric trains exported to Australia in the outdoor exhibition area. These trains are widely used for long-distance passenger services in the United States and Europe and are expected to contribute to expanding Hyundai Rotem's technological capabilities and product lineup.

The Korean Train Control System (KTCS) will also be exhibited. Developed by Hyundai Rotem, KTCS is a system that controls trains in real time using a 4th generation wireless communication-based railway communication network (LTE-R). It meets European standard specifications, ensuring global compatibility. Hyundai Rotem plans to target the global train control system market through this technology.

A Hyundai Rotem official stated, "Through this exhibition, we will promote various railway technologies such as hydrogen mobility, high-speed rail, and GTX to the global market, strengthen overseas order expansion, and advance our global market entry."
