[2024 Asia Construction Awards] Ssangyong Construction Ranks No.1 in Remodeling Completion with Patented Methods and New Technologies

Ssangyong Construction, which received the Asia Economic Representative Award in the remodeling category of this year's Asia Construction Comprehensive Awards, is dominating the domestic remodeling market with patented construction methods and new technologies. Since launching the industry's first dedicated remodeling team in July 2000, it has completed a total of five remodeling complexes to date, holding the industry's number one record for completions.

In February this year, Ssangyong Construction completed 'Songpa The Platinum' in Ogeum-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul. This complex, remodeled from the Ogeum Anam Apartment built in 1992, was transformed through horizontal extension remodeling from the original structure of one basement floor, 15 above-ground floors, and 299 households to three basement floors, 16 above-ground floors, and 328 households. The exclusive area expanded from the previous 37~84㎡ to 52~106㎡. The number of parking spaces nearly doubled from 165 to 320.

Songpa The Platinum is the first remodeling apartment in Korea to offer general sales. In January 2022, general sales were conducted for 29 additional units created through remodeling, attracting about 75,000 applicants and closing all units with a high competition rate of 2599 to 1 on average.

This apartment is designed with a household separation layout to generate rental income. The household separation layout provides two entrances for one unit, allowing it to be occupied as independent households. The head of the household can earn rental income through partial leasing. For the 106㎡ exclusive area, about 60% of the total 119 households are of the household separation type.

Especially, as the first remodeling apartment with general sales in the Gangnam area of Seoul, it was developed as a high-quality specialized complex that integrates Ssangyong Construction's patented construction methods and new technologies. The entire complex was constructed with one floor as a pilotis, vertically extending one floor. Additionally, the elevator, which previously operated only up to the first floor above ground, was connected down to the third basement floor, applying new technologies such as the basement downward extension method and simultaneous execution method for above-ground and basement floors.

This unique construction method has attracted significant interest from other projects as well. In March last year, 33 remodeling associations from the Seoul metropolitan area visited the site, inspected the construction process, and received explanations about the technology.

Besides this, Ssangyong Construction is currently promoting three remodeling projects worth about 800 billion KRW, including Garak Ssangyong Phase 1 (2,373 households) and Munjeong Hyundai Apartment (138 households) in Songpa-gu. A Ssangyong Construction official stated, "A luxury complex upgraded to the next level was born by applying the advanced technology and know-how accumulated by Ssangyong Construction so far," adding, "We will continue the reputation of a remodeling specialist by developing new construction methods and actively nurturing engineers."
