A Group of Monkeys Attacks Man After Screams Heard
Approximately 32,000 Sexual Assault Cases Occur Annually
News has emerged that monkeys in India saved a 6-year-old girl from a sexual assault attempt, drawing widespread attention.
On the 23rd (local time), Indian local media including the Times of India reported on an incident that occurred on the 21st in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, northern India. The girl, who was playing in front of her house that day, was lured by a stranger to an abandoned house. There, the man attempted to strip the girl and sexually assault her. When the girl screamed, a group of nearby monkeys rushed over and began attacking the man.
He threatened the girl, saying, "Do not tell anyone about this incident," and "If you do, I will kill your family," before leaving the scene. With the help of neighbors, the girl safely returned home and told her family about the horrific ordeal. The girl's father reported the incident to the police, who are currently tracking the man.
The girl's father said, "When my daughter was playing outside, this man took her away," and added, "If the monkeys had not intervened, my daughter would be dead by now." A local police official stated, "We are working to identify and apprehend the suspect based on the parents' complaint," and "The suspect will be prosecuted under India's Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act." CCTV footage shows a man holding the hand of the girl, referred to as A, walking through a narrow alley. The police are working to identify the man and trace his whereabouts.

Meanwhile, according to statistics released by the Indian government, about 32,000 cases of rape were reported in 2022. Previously, over 28,000 reports of sexual violence crimes were filed with Indian police in 2020. These figures only represent reported cases, and the actual number is believed to be higher. According to a 2014 report by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), crimes against Dalits (the untouchable caste in India) occur every 18 minutes, and more than three Dalit women are raped daily.
