Psychiatrist Kim Ji-yong, Appearing on 'You Quiz on the Block' and Running YouTube Channel 'Noe Buja Deul,' to Give a Lecture... Phone Registration Starts September 26, First-Come-First-Served, All Seats Free and Open Seating
Nowon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold a family education lecture on mental illness titled "Teachers: Please Take Care of Mental Illness" for families.
According to a recent survey by the Ministry of Health and Welfare on "the expansion of support services for people with mental illness and their families," 61.7% of families of people with mental illness responded that "the burden of caring for the patient is heavy."
This lecture was organized to raise awareness of the importance of mental health management on October 10, "Mental Health Day," and to empathize with and support not only the patients with mental illness but also their families and caregivers.
The "Teachers: Please Take Care of Mental Illness" lecture will be held on November 6 at 4 p.m. in the auditorium on the 2nd floor of the Nowon Lifelong Education Center, with psychiatrist Kim Ji-yong participating.
Dr. Kim Ji-yong is actively working to lower the barriers to psychiatry through the YouTube channel "Brain Rich People" and is an expert who informs the public about psychological stability and the importance of mental health through various TV appearances, lectures, and creative activities.
This lecture will deeply address depression and anxiety, which anyone can experience. Mental illness is not just an individual patient’s problem but a process experienced together by the entire family living with the patient. Therefore, the lecture will also provide time to consider how families can help in the recovery process along with a proper understanding of the patient.
The lecture is open to any local residents who have family members with mental illness or are interested in the topic. Registration by phone at the Nowon-gu Mental Health Welfare Center will be accepted starting from the 26th. Participation is free, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis without assigned seats.
Meanwhile, the district will hold a Mental Health Day commemorative event titled "人=人" at Nowon Junggye CGV on October 8. The event will be divided into two parts: the first part will screen the human rights film for people with mental disabilities, "Snail Family," and the second part will host a "Talk Concert" with Lee Raha, author of the drama "Morning Comes to the Psychiatric Ward," and a webtoon artist.
Any local residents interested in mental health can participate, and applications can be made by phone on a first-come, first-served basis.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, "Our goal is to eliminate prejudice against mental health and create an environment where residents can comfortably receive help," adding, "We will continue to strive to prepare various practical support programs that share and solve the difficulties experienced not only by patients themselves but also by their families."
