Representative Oh Junhwan's Proposal
Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Deliberation and Amendment Approval
Spotlight on Future Transportation Modes
The Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation announced on the 24th that it has been designated as the entrusted agency for urban air mobility (UAM) projects in Gyeonggi Province and is expected to play various roles in establishing UAM infrastructure within the province in the future.
Previously, on the 23rd, the ordinance titled “Support for the Promotion of the Urban Air Mobility Industry and the Establishment of a Traffic Management System in Gyeonggi Province,” which was primarily proposed by Assemblyman Oh Junhwan of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, was passed.
This ordinance, which names the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation as the entrusted agency, goes beyond supporting industrial promotion to include the establishment of a traffic management system as a means of transportation. It is expected to serve as a standard guideline for ordinances to be enacted later in the 31 cities and counties of Gyeonggi Province.
The main contents of the ordinance include the formulation and implementation of support plans for promoting the urban air mobility industry and establishing a traffic management system, support and delegation of projects in the urban air mobility sector, linkage between the urban air mobility management system and other transportation modes, training and program development for nurturing and strengthening the capabilities of professionals in the urban air mobility industry, and conducting academic exchanges.
Assemblyman Oh Junhwan said, “I expect that the passage of this ordinance will greatly contribute to promoting the use of future transportation modes within Gyeonggi Province and to regional economic development,” adding, “The passage of this ordinance will be a starting point for the development of the Gyeonggi UAM industry, where the need for metropolitan mobility is significant.”
Min Kyungseon, president of the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, said, “I am grateful for Assemblyman Oh Junhwan’s sincere interest and support, which made it possible for the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation to be named in this ordinance through various efforts. Through this ordinance, the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation has secured a foothold for promoting UAM projects,” and added, “We will do our best to continuously consult and cooperate with Gyeonggi Province and the Provincial Assembly to discover effective Gyeonggi-type UAM services.”
So far, the corporation has carried out tasks related to urban air mobility (UAM), including holding joint seminars with the Gyeonggi Research Institute through the G+ policy platform, establishing a cooperation system among the province, cities/counties, and the corporation, and participating in the “2024 Drone Demonstration City Construction Project” to expand capabilities in the aviation sector.
Additionally, it recently joined the UAM Team Korea model working group, a policy community involving industry, academia, research, and government led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, to promote the discovery of related business models.
The Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation contributes to enabling Gyeonggi residents to use safe and convenient transportation services through demand-responsive transportation, the Gyeonggi-type MaaS platform, and ITS advancement projects, while also striving to link urban air mobility with ground transportation modes based on its existing operations.
