Guri City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 24th that it will operate the third program of the second half of the year, "Naknak (樂樂) Library, Growing Books (冊) through Humanities," at the Dream Workshop in Inchang Library on the 27th, titled "Meeting with Professor Lee Hee-su: Human History Viewed from the Center."
Inviting Professor Lee Hee-su, one of Korea's leading experts on Islam, the program will discuss redefining the universal historical perspective, which has traditionally divided history into "East" and "West" as the central axis, by declaring the history of the Orient-Middle East region, the root of human civilization, as the "original history (本史)" and newly defining the center of world history as the "Intermediate Civilization."
Professor Lee Hee-su earned his Ph.D. at Istanbul University in Turkey, becoming the first Korean to do so, and currently serves as a professor in the Department of Cultural Anthropology at Hanyang University, dedicating himself to nurturing future scholars. He is conducting research on Islamic culture in Turkey, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, and other countries.
Baek Kyung-hyun, mayor of Guri City, said, "Through this program, I hope it will be a valuable time to gain new insights into human civilization and to develop a new perspective on world history."
