Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) held a 'Facility-Living Children Allowance and Book Purchase Support Fund Delivery Ceremony' at the district office on the afternoon of the 24th.
The 20 million KRW donation received from Bonjeongbo Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Myung-ho) on this day will be provided to 95 children living in child protection facilities such as orphanages and group homes, which are family-type care facilities.
Although Seoul City currently provides allowances to children living in child protection facilities, the high cost of living makes it insufficient to purchase books or supplies necessary for their studies. Accordingly, the district secured the necessary funds to support children living in facilities through cooperation with private resources.
Starting this month until next year, the district plans to provide additional monthly support by age group on top of the existing Seoul City allowance, becoming the first autonomous district in Seoul to do so. The total payment amounts are 40,000 KRW for elementary school students, 80,000 KRW for middle school students, 100,000 KRW for high school students, and 150,000 KRW for university students. This represents an increase of up to 66% compared to the existing Seoul City support.
The district intends to continue expanding cooperation with local private resources so that children living in facilities can enjoy more benefits.
Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, “I have always felt sorry for not being able to provide sufficient allowance to the children due to limited budget,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure that children are protected and grow up in better environments.”
