At the 'Made on YouTube Asia-Pacific (APAC) Roundtable' held on the 24th, officials are making presentations.
YouTube, which introduced the video generation AI 'VEO' for Shorts (short videos) production, announced that it has established safeguards to prevent personal information from being misused amid deepfake concerns.
Yohana Bulic, YouTube's Chief Product Officer (CPO), stated at the 'Made on YouTube Asia-Pacific (APAC) Roundtable' held on the 24th, "We are updating procedures to report cases where creators' content, faces, voices, etc., are realistically depicted or misused using AI," adding, "We continue to invest in protecting the YouTube community."
YouTube plans to apply the same guidelines to all content regardless of how it was generated or edited. Deepfakes created using AI will be subject to the same regulations as existing guidelines. Additionally, a reporting procedure has been established that allows individuals to request deletion and have content actually removed if deepfake damage occurs.
Furthermore, YouTube will notify users when content is created using AI through a watermark. Videos made with AI will bear a watermark called 'SynthID.' Daniel Derby, YouTube Product Manager, explained, "For content produced through AI, this information will appear in the description when viewed," and added, "Sensitive content must follow guidelines to disclose this information."
Earlier, on the 18th (local time), YouTube unveiled Google's DeepMind video generation model VEO at the annual strategy announcement event 'Made on YouTube' held in New York, USA. It is expected to be applied to YouTube Shorts, where users can create, share, and watch videos up to 60 seconds long. Specifically, VEO will be integrated into 'Dream Screen,' an AI tool that creates Shorts backgrounds. Once integrated, VEO will not only generate backgrounds for Shorts using AI technology but also independently create videos within 6 seconds.
AI will also be applied to the existing platform YouTube Studio. The 'Ideas' tab within YouTube Studio will be revamped to allow creators to receive suggestions for content ideas, titles, thumbnails, and outlines through AI. For Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, French, and other languages, a feature will be provided to automatically dub from these languages to English and from English to these four languages using AI. Supported languages will be expanded in the future.
In addition, YouTube is introducing various features to support creators. A 'Hype' feature is under development to cheer on new creators. Fans of creators with fewer than 500,000 subscribers can hype up to three latest videos per week, and videos with high hype points will have opportunities to be exposed to many YouTube users. This feature is being tested in Brazil, Taiwan, and T?rkiye.
Jewels and gifts that viewers can give to creators during live streaming will also be introduced. Initially, this will be applied to vertical live streaming in the United States, providing a new way to generate revenue. Additionally, through the YouTube Shopping affiliate program, creators will be supported to generate income by introducing affiliate products within their content.
