Musical Presented with Entirely Original Songs
The Cheongsong Culture and Tourism Foundation in North Gyeongsang Province will present the musical storytelling play "Soheon Sillok" in two performances at 7 p.m. on the 27th and 30th, at Soheon Park in Cheongsong-eup and Jinbo Culture and Sports Center.
Following the enthusiastic response to last year's "Queen Soheon - Cheongsong Aega," held to commemorate the 600th anniversary of Cheongsong County, this year's production features an entirely new set of songs, promising an even richer performance.
In particular, the play captures the sorrow hidden behind the queen's illustrious name and her spirit of sacrifice for the nation, delivering a moving experience through collaborations with a chamber orchestra, traditional Korean music, jeongga, and talented soloists.
"Soheon Sillok" is a storytelling musical that unfolds the life of Queen Soheon, wife of King Sejong and a native of Cheongsong. It depicts her life as the mother of the nation in Joseon, the unjust downfall of her family, the Cheongsong Shim clan, due to the strengthening of royal authority by her father-in-law, King Taejong, and her poignant love with King Sejong.
The performance is divided into four acts: Act 1 - Palace, depicting Soheon's journey from crown princess to queen; Act 2 - Sorrow, portraying the downfall of the Cheongsong Shim clan; Act 3 - Governance, showing the queen managing the inner court; and Act 4 - Age of Peace, presenting Queen Soheon's life overcoming numerous hardships through diverse direction and music.
Chairman Yoon Kyunghee (Governor of Cheongsong County) stated, "It is meaningful to hold a performance depicting the life of Queen Soheon of the Cheongsong Shim clan," and added, "I hope this performance will serve as an opportunity to make Queen Soheon more widely known."
