Ulsan City and Ulsan Police Agency Open Joint Mental Emergency Response Center

24-Hour Joint Response to Mental Health Emergency Crises

Expectations for Establishing a Rapid and Safe Cooperative Response System

Ulsan City and the Ulsan Metropolitan Police Agency will hold an opening ceremony for the Joint Mental Health Emergency Response Center on the 3rd floor of the Medical Association Building (Myeongchon, Buk-gu) at 2 p.m. on the 24th, officially launching its operation.

The Joint Mental Health Emergency Response Center has been established to efficiently respond to psychiatric emergencies by minimizing overlapping roles, as previously both organizations responded separately to such situations.

The center will be staffed by 14 members from the Ulsan Metropolitan Mental Health Welfare Center Crisis Intervention Team and 4 members from the Ulsan Police Agency Response Team. The personnel will be divided into teams of five and will be on duty around the clock.

When a mental health emergency occurs, police officers and mental health professionals will conduct psychiatric crisis assessments, protective measures, and emergency hospitalizations simultaneously.

It is expected that operating as a single team from on-site response to follow-up measures will enable faster and more efficient handling of emergencies.

An official from Ulsan City stated, "We will strengthen the mental health emergency response system to ensure the health and safety of our citizens in mental health emergencies, and will work with the Mental Health Welfare Center to provide ongoing management so that individuals with mental illness receive appropriate treatment."

An official from the Police Agency said, "Responding to individuals with mental illness is a task that requires the cooperation of multiple related organizations. Ulsan Police will strive to create a safer community through strengthened collaboration with local governments, aiming to make Ulsan the safest city."

End.
