A man in his 30s working as a 'Coupangman' on Ulleungdo Island has attracted attention by revealing that his "average monthly income is about 7 million won."

Recently, YouTuber A, who runs the YouTube channel 'The Man Who Went All the Way,' met and talked with Kim Suhyun (34), who works as a Coupangman on Ulleungdo.

A met Kim around 12:20 PM and headed to the pier together. Kim explained, "We don't have a separate logistics center, so the goods are sorted on the mainland and sent over in a large truck. When the truck unloads at the ferry, we go to the logistics yard to pick up the goods by vehicle for sorting."

When A asked, "The roads on Ulleungdo are very winding and have many downhill sections. Isn't it difficult to drive?" Kim replied, "I've lived on Ulleungdo since birth, so I think all the roads are like this. In winter, it snows a lot, which is a bit tough, but other than that, it's not particularly difficult."

On that day, the ferry broke down, so the logistics arrived in the afternoon. Kim, who said he usually starts work around 6:30 AM, said, "We can't load all the goods at once, so we load and unload twice. There are places where even handcarts can't go up, so we have to carry everything on foot."

In response to A's question, "Delivering bottled water must be really tough," Kim said, "The problem isn't the water; we also have to carry refrigerators up. Basically, everything marked as Rocket Delivery has to be delivered." He added, "Since Ulleungdo has many alleys, most deliveries are done by parking and carrying the goods by hand."

Regarding the average daily working hours, Kim said, "I leave around 7 AM, and if I finish early, it's around 1 to 2:30 PM. If the ferry doesn't come for two days, I sometimes finish at 10 PM. If the ferry is delayed by a day, I have to deliver 600 or 700 packages all on the same day. Days off are when the ferry doesn't sail."

Watching Kim's day, YouTuber A said, "I thought it would be easier than mainland Coupangmen, but due to Ulleungdo's characteristics, the roads are very rough. Not only driving but also carrying goods uphill and through alleys after getting out of the vehicle is tough. I think it's twice as hard as mainland Coupangmen."

When asked about his average monthly income, Kim replied, "After deducting fuel and other expenses, I earn in the high 6 million won range." At the time Kim refueled, gasoline was 1,939 won, diesel 1,825 won, and kerosene 1,320 won per liter. Kim continued, "Of course, the work is physically demanding, but since I earn accordingly, it doesn't matter. The hardest part is being looked down on by people while working." He advised, "Many start working at Coupang thinking they will make a lot of money, but if you carry 100 packages at first, you won't be able to deliver them all in one day. I want to tell people not to start recklessly. There is always a price to pay for what you earn."

Netizens responded with various comments such as "They should be paid 10 million won a month," "It's a very tough job, so it's right they get paid well," "I'm watching the video lying down and feel sorry," "These people are heroes," "Truly amazing and respectable," "Cheering for you," "As a Coupangman, I could never do Ulleungdo," "Without this person, Ulleungdo wouldn't function," "Shouldn't Rocket Delivery on Ulleungdo be discontinued?" and "Take care of your health."
