Dynamic Street Festival 'Dancing Nowon'

The 'Dancing Nowon,' which blocks off a wide 7-lane road for dance, music, and parade, will be the first to greet residents. About 120,000 residents participated in its inaugural event last year. This year, the district appointed ‘Poppin Hyun-jun,’ a living legend of Korean hip-hop dance, as the dance director and ambassador to prepare high-quality content.

On September 28 and 29, along the 555-meter section from the KB Kookmin Bank (Lotte Department Store) intersection near Nowon Station to in front of Nowon Full Gospel Church, nonstop entertainment will be available.

The highlight, the ‘Parade,’ will feature about 75 teams competing for a total prize of 60 million KRW. Parades will include diverse genres such as hip-hop and marching bands. At the Dancing Theme Zone, visitors can enjoy stage performances like the K-pop Dancing Festa, national B-boy dance battles, and all-genre performance competitions, while nearby healing rest areas will offer a variety of foods including Nowon's signature craft beers.

Following this, celebratory performances by HOOK, 1MILLION, Poppin Hyun-jun & Park Ae-ri, Dynamic Duo, Jinjo Crew, and others, along with an EDM DJ show, will create a festive atmosphere where all ages can express their excitement through music and movement.

This year, the concert will prominently feature YB, Korea’s representative rock band, along with Park Ki-young, who showcases a chameleon-like charm with diverse tones and rich vocal power, and the band LUCY, which has been actively performing across various genres and is a top choice for domestic and international music festivals after finishing as runner-up on . Notably, each invited musician will perform for over 40 minutes, an unusual length, allowing them to fully demonstrate their appeal and true value.

The concert will take place on October 5 at 6 p.m. at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology Sports Complex in Gongneung-dong.

'Dancing Nowon' and 'Gyeongchunseon Supgil Autumn Concert' Autumn Cultural Festivals Held in Nowon-gu 2023 Nowon Moonlight Walk

Public Art Project Representing Cultural City Nowon 'Nowon Moonlight Walk: Breath'

While the previous two events express excitement through movement and music, 'Nowon Moonlight Walk: Breath' is a festival that offers a visual feast of light and helps quietly explore the inner self.

‘Danghyeoncheon,’ which crosses the heart of Nowon and provides healthy leisure to residents’ daily lives, will transform into a massive outdoor art gallery for a month. First held in 2020, 'Nowon Moonlight Walk' has been praised for elevating the artistic quality of exhibited works and opening a new horizon for public art projects.

Last year’s Moonlight Walk, held under the theme ‘Alchemy of Light,’ attracted 960,000 visitors. This year, under the theme ‘Breath,’ 24 artists (teams) will participate, presenting high-quality visual art.

Before the festival, a symposium will be held to discuss public art linkage plans and network expansion for resident participation. The festival will also mature as a new concept of festival culture completed through citizen participation, based on the connection with the youth visual arts education project ‘Moonlight Art School.’

Nowon Moonlight Walk will be held from October 18 to November 17 along the 2 km Danghyeoncheon walking trail, from Nowon Mathematics Culture Center to Danghyeon 1 Bridge.

The district’s dedicated preparation of such diverse festivals has been met with enthusiastic responses from residents. Big data analysis showed that visitors from outside Nowon surged during the first half’s 'Nowon Craft Beer Festival' and 'Gyeongchun Line Gongneung Forest Trail Coffee Festival,' proving their potential and competitiveness as representative cultural contents of the northeastern region. In a recent public opinion survey conducted on the second anniversary of the 8th local government administration, 65.1% of respondents agreed that Nowon’s cultural contents are becoming more diverse, and 79.1% said cultural events play a role in enhancing quality of life, belonging, and pride.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “Public cultural contents are a key pillar in transforming Nowon from a bedroom town where people work in the city center but spend leisure time in the Gyeonggi area into a place where work, residence, and leisure are concentrated. Therefore, we have prepared the representative festivals with even greater focus. After a long, hot summer, we hope everyone enjoys the festivals in Nowon every day this fall.”
