A foreign surfer who was drifting after the sail of his board broke due to strong winds while practicing for a windsurfing competition was rescued by the Coast Guard.
The Changwon Coast Guard in Gyeongnam announced that on the 22nd, they rescued a Swiss national in his 20s, identified as A, approximately 0.37 km (0.2 nautical miles) northwest of Jisimdo, Geoje City.
According to the Changwon Coast Guard, A had departed from Jisepho Port at around 11:30 a.m. to practice surfing in preparation for the National Windsurfing Competition to be held in Geoje on the 28th.
Upon receiving the report, the Coast Guard dispatched a coastal rescue boat from the Jangseungpo station and rescued A at 11:56 a.m.
A Coast Guard official stated, "When engaging in water leisure activities, always check the weather conditions first," and urged, "Please refrain from going out to sea when weather conditions are poor, such as during a high wind advisory."
