Gyeonggi Provincial Council Passes 'Partial Amendment to the Gyeonggi Provincial School Establishment Ordinance'
Targeting March 2025 Opening on Annex Site of Suwon Jeil Middle School
The 'Partial Amendment to the Gyeonggi-do Metropolitan School Establishment Ordinance' has passed the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, marking the official preparation for the opening of the digital-based 'Gyeonggi Ieum On School' in March next year.
According to the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education on the 23rd, 'Gyeonggi Ieum On School' is a public miscellaneous school that operates an online curriculum for credit recognition, designed for digital-based teaching and learning.
The school site has been prepared in the annex of Suwon Jeil Middle School, with facility construction completed by August this year. In the future, it will house 17 individual studio lecture rooms, various educational material (content) production rooms, and a high school credit system support center.
It will operate on the same schedule as general high schools and is preparing to manage various types of academic operations such as semester and seasonal systems based on guidelines for organizing and operating joint curricula.
The Office of Education plans to guarantee students a variety of course options by offering small-sized classes and new industry and new technology subjects through the opening of 'Gyeonggi Ieum On School.' It is also expected to assist schools struggling with instructor recruitment and students who have difficulty attending classes due to long-distance commuting.
Kim Yoon-gi, Director of the Curriculum Policy Division, stated, “Gyeonggi Ieum On School will realize diverse educational programs that students dream of and contribute to reducing academic disparities by region. We will actively cooperate with related departments to establish regular teacher placements and build infrastructure such as lecture rooms in preparation for the school's opening.”
