Woo Dong-gi, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the Local Era, visited Yeoncheon to communicate with residents on the theme of local decentralization and balanced regional development.

According to Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi Province, on the 23rd, Woo Dong-gi, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the Local Era, held a special lecture titled "Vision and Strategy for the Local Era" at Yeoncheon Sureul Art Hall in the morning.

The special lecture was organized to seek solutions to economic and social issues such as education, housing, and industry occurring in Yeoncheon-gun, a border and population-decreasing area, by understanding government policies and strategic measures on local autonomy decentralization and balanced regional development.

At the event, Chairman Woo shared opinions on △the reality of local areas △balanced development policies of past governments △vision and strategy for the local era △key tasks for the local era, emphasizing the necessity of balanced development led by local governments and responsible local decentralization.

Chairman Woo said, "Despite continuous efforts by past governments for national land balanced development, including expanding local autonomy, establishing balanced development hubs, and creating innovation bases, the sense of crisis over local extinction is increasing. The government will do its best to establish an efficient support system to secure local autonomy based on the comprehensive plan for the local era, promoting revival projects for population-decreasing areas, designating opportunity development and education development special zones, expanding local talent selection in local universities and increasing medical school quotas, and innovating essential medical services."

Kim Deok-hyun, Mayor of Yeoncheon-gun, said, "This special invited lecture was a meaningful opportunity to understand regional issues such as lack of industrial and educational infrastructure and youth population outflow from a macro perspective. Yeoncheon-gun, as a border and population-decreasing area, has faced many difficulties in regional development due to military facility regulations for a long time, but we are striving to establish a green bio-specialized industry base suitable for the region based on the natural environment preserved by underdevelopment."
