From the Theory to Practical Application of ECMO Treatment: Providing Comprehensive Knowledge
Lee Dongwon, a specialist in the Department of Cardiology at SMG Yonsei Hospital, officially published the medical book "Basic ECMO Explained in an Easy Way" last August, which is a translation of a Japanese book on ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation).
This book provides extensive knowledge from the theory to the practical application of ECMO therapy and is based on the latest research and clinical experience. The book was reviewed by Professor Na Seungwoon from the Department of Cardiology at Korea University Guro Hospital.
ECMO is an essential treatment for sustaining the lives of patients with severe cardiac or respiratory failure and is widely used in many medical institutions around the world. The book covers the principles of ECMO operation, proper patient selection, complication management, and the recovery process after treatment, offering an in-depth understanding of ECMO use.
In the translator's preface, Lee stated, "The publication of this translation will greatly contribute to the advancement and dissemination of ECMO technology in Korea," adding that healthcare professionals will be able to gain practical knowledge necessary for ECMO therapy.
He further added, "Considering the complexity of ECMO therapy, the publication of systematically organized materials explained in an easy-to-understand manner is expected to contribute to improving the level of critical care in Korea."
Previously, in December of last year, Lee also translated and published in Korean "Mastering Cardiac Pacemaker Implantation Alone," a book by Dr. Okamura Hideo, a Japanese specialist in hematology and vascular surgery.
