Harris "We Must Do It Again"... Trump "It's Already Too Late"
Ahead of the U.S. presidential election, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are reportedly considering conducting consecutive broadcast interviews instead of a second TV debate, U.S. media Axios reported on the 22nd (local time).
The two candidates are contemplating appearing together on CBS's flagship current affairs program "60 Minutes," scheduled to air on the 7th of next month.
The Harris campaign stated that they are actively negotiating with 60 Minutes.
The Trump campaign said the interview is still undecided. However, sources told Axios, "No one draws ratings like former President Trump."
60 Minutes has also requested appearances from Vice Presidential candidates Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Senator JD Vance.
60 Minutes is a popular program considered the original U.S. current affairs show. During the 2020 presidential election, when interviews with President Joe Biden and former President Trump aired back-to-back, it attracted 17.4 million viewers, gaining significant attention.
Axios stated, "With former President Trump refusing a second debate with Vice President Harris, the CBS interview offers both sides a final opportunity to capture public interest 29 days before the election."
Vice President Harris accepted CNN's proposal for a second debate scheduled for the 23rd of next month. Harris decisively won against former President Trump in the first debate on the 10th.
However, former President Trump announced at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, that since voting has already begun, it is too late and he refuses additional debates.
Vice President Harris is pressuring Trump, saying meeting once more before Election Day is a duty to voters, but the likelihood of a second debate taking place is low.
While the U.S. presidential election voting will be held on November 5th, early voting began on the 11th in Alabama and has since started in Virginia, Minnesota, South Dakota, and others. By the proposed second debate date of the 23rd of next month, early voting will have started in more than 30 of the 50 states.
