Busan Office of Education, NALDA Video English 2nd Term Filled in Just One Minute

English Speaking Support for 427 Students from Grade 5 to Grade 9

Customized 1:1:1 Program with Student, Native Speaker, and Korean Teacher

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education drew attention as the application for the second round of the student-tailored online English speaking support program, "NALDA Video English," which began its first round last July, closed within just one minute.

"NALDA" stands for "Nurturing and Learning through Direct Action," meaning growth and learning through direct English conversation with native speakers. The name also carries a double meaning, as "nalda" means "to fly (to grow)" in Korean.

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 23rd that the second round of "NALDA Video English" will be operated for 427 students from grade 5 in elementary to grade 3 in middle school, from December 17 to January 7 next year.

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education runs the program by matching each student with a Korean teacher and a native English teacher in a 1:1:1 format, supporting a multi-dimensional, customized English speaking learning experience.

The Korean teacher focuses on teaching core grammar, sentence structures, and vocabulary, while the native English teacher emphasizes real-time English conversation based on the content pre-learned by the students.

Students can study the materials independently through the Learning Management System (LMS) and receive feedback from their Korean teacher in the next session.

In particular, the program helps students maintain learning continuity and systematically improve their English speaking skills through the "NALDA Video English Teacher Support Group," consisting of 20 outstanding teachers from the Busan area. These teachers monitor students' attendance and learning outcomes and provide individual learning consultations.

Students in the second round will be assigned to one of five levels?Basic, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Intensive?after taking a level test, and then participate in classes accordingly.

The application for the second round, which opened on the 9th, received overwhelming interest from students and parents, with the quota filled within just one minute. This is analyzed as a result of word-of-mouth about the class content and students' improved performance after the first round.

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, which operates the program for 800 students, confirmed 427 students for the second round, excluding the 373 who participated in the first round. Of these, 127 students from disadvantaged backgrounds were given priority, and 300 additional students were recruited. Notably, among these 300, an additional 100 students from disadvantaged backgrounds were selected to further expand educational opportunities for these groups.

The Office of Education plans to expand the program's target group to provide high-quality English learning opportunities not only to students from disadvantaged backgrounds but also to more general students, in response to the high level of interest.

Ha Yoonsoo, Superintendent of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "The NALDA Video English program plays a significant role in overcoming spatial limitations and providing equal educational opportunities to all students, thereby helping to close educational gaps between regions. The Office of Education will continue to operate the program effectively to enhance students' English speaking skills and further strengthen customized learning support."
