BHIC announced on the 23rd that it visited Prague, Czech Republic as part of an economic delegation and signed a strategic business agreement (MOU) with Doosan Skoda Power, a local subsidiary of Doosan Enerbility. Through this agreement, both companies plan to strengthen cooperation in the Czech energy infrastructure market.
Doosan Skoda Power is a Czech turbine manufacturer with over 150 years of history and possesses core technology for steam turbines. It joined the Doosan Group after being acquired by Doosan in 2009.
The two companies plan to enhance collaboration in eco-friendly energy generation fields such as nuclear power and combined cycle power. Doosan Skoda Power specializes in turbine manufacturing, while BHIC produces heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) and balance of plant (BOP) equipment for nuclear power plants, and the company expects strong business synergy from their cooperation.
Additionally, BHIC held in-depth discussions with major energy infrastructure companies in the Czech Republic during the visit. They had partnering meetings with Skoda Praha, a subsidiary of the Czech power company CEZ, as well as with NUVIA, VITKOVICE, and MBNS. BHIC plans to build close cooperative systems with these related companies based on this visit.
The Czech Republic is pursuing a “coal phase-out policy” to discontinue coal power generation early by 2033. Accordingly, demand for alternative energy development such as hydrogen and nuclear power is increasing. BHIC holds a competitive portfolio of manufacturing facilities across various energy infrastructure sectors including nuclear power generation, LNG combined cycle power, and green hydrogen.
A BHIC official stated, “In order to create new opportunities not only in nuclear power plant exports promoted by our government but also in various energy infrastructure fields, we will closely cooperate with Doosan Skoda Power and several local Czech companies.”
Meanwhile, the Czech nuclear power export is the second case of exporting the “Korean-type nuclear power plant” in 15 years since the Barakah nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2009. BHIC supplied key items such as stainless steel liners (SSLW) during the Barakah nuclear power export and currently maintains qualifications to supply equipment subject to nuclear quality requirements.
