This competition, supported by the Busan Metropolitan City, is open to any student or citizen interested in marine data who can form a team. Applications can be submitted via the official competition website until October 18.
With the subtitle ‘Data War Across the Sea’, this event aims to develop new marine services and marine new industry business models through the convergence of marine industries and big data. In particular, by introducing the concept of worcation to the hackathon, it is expected to present an innovative educational model of a new era that combines the romance of a cruise with the challenge of competition to turn visions into reality.
The final round of the competition will be held for three days from November 7 to 9 onboard a cruise ship off the coast of Busan. Participants will use marine big data within a limited time to generate new ideas based on topics such as digital transformation, smart marine and fisheries technology, and climate change response, and complete them as business models or digital services in a practical competition format.
The 10 teams that advance to the finals will directly handle marine data onboard the cruise and participate in the process of creating business models. During this process, they will receive mentoring from a panel of experts composed of university professors, researchers, and corporate research staff in the fields of marine industries and big data. As the hackathon focuses on proposing new marine new industry service models, it is expected to contribute to the development of Busan’s marine industry.
Teams that achieve outstanding results in the competition will receive various benefits, including commendations from the Mayor of Busan and the CEO of Microsoft Korea, as well as prize money.
