According to AFP on the 22nd (local time), the Israeli military stated that Hezbollah's airstrikes began in the early hours of the day.
The Israeli military said, "Hezbollah fired 115 projectiles toward civilian areas in northern Israel over the past few hours," adding, "As a result, we are currently targeting sites belonging to the Hezbollah terrorist organization in Lebanon."
Tensions between the two sides have escalated since the simultaneous explosions of Hezbollah's main communication devices, wireless pagers, in Lebanon on the 17th.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah labeled the incident as a 'declaration of war' by Israel and vowed retaliation, but Israel has since intensified clashes by eliminating Hezbollah commanders through targeted airstrikes on Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
