Even After Being Expelled, Repeated Visits Asking "Can't You Find a Partner?"
An elderly man who handed a letter full of obscene language to a community service center employee, claiming he was looking for a lover, has sparked public outrage.
On the 21st, an anonymous office worker community called 'Blind' posted a message titled 'Grandfather Looking for a Lover.' It was written by A, who revealed that he works at a community service center, stating, "Just now, an elderly male client silently handed me an envelope, so I thought it was a letter and read it. But all four pages contained content like 'I'm looking for someone to suck my XX and for me to suck their XX.'"
"I was shocked and stayed still, then called a nearby employee to chase him away. I regret not taking a photo of the letter. It felt like sexual harassment," he said. "When the nearby employee asked, 'What do you want?' he said he was looking for a lover. Why is he looking for a lover at the community service center?"
The grandfather came back and asked again, "Can't I find a lover?" A said he asked the client to give the letter back and took photos of all the pages, then revealed the letter's photo. The letter read, "Please call. Then ○○ will come out to the yard. If you become lovers with ○○, ○○ will suck your XX, put XX into XX, and ask you to suck XX. On Saturday and Sunday evenings, no one comes, and I am alone. I have a younger sibling living in Incheon, but the sibling doesn't come on Saturdays and Sundays once every two months and comes on other days. If you become lovers with ○○..."
The author said, "When I tried to report the grandfather, the team leaders stopped me. They said he is a well-known mentally ill person," adding, "What is the right thing to do? I think I can report it, but it seems useless," expressing despair.
40,000 Malicious Complaints Annually... "Need to Assess Effectiveness of Civil Servant Protection Measures"
Malicious complaints against public officials exceed 40,000 annually. According to data from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, over the past six years (2018?2023), there have been 249,714 cases of illegal acts by complainants nationwide. Among these, verbal abuse and threats accounted for 228,837 cases, the highest number. On average, this amounts to about 38,000 cases per year. Sexual harassment and assault followed with 2,851 cases (an average of 475 per year) and 1,614 cases (an average of 269 per year), respectively.
In response, the government announced measures in May to prevent malicious complaints and protect public officials to reduce harm caused by such complaints. Lee Seong-gwon, a member of the People Power Party (Busan Saha-gap), said, "Illegal acts by complainants are selfish behaviors that harm citizens' convenience," and urged, "The government must continuously monitor the effectiveness of the announced measures to minimize harm to public officials."
