Seongnam City on High Alert Following Monday 6 PM Yatap Station Knife Attack Warning

"Threatened to stab 30 people and set fire"... Author being tracked

Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province has recently entered an emergency response posture following the posting of a crime warning related to Yatap Station on an anonymous online community.

On the afternoon of the 20th, Seongnam City held an emergency response meeting attended by relevant departments and police officials, deciding to strengthen the response system by maintaining emergency contact networks with related agencies, conducting intensive patrols around Yatap Station, and focusing CCTV surveillance. The local administrative welfare centers and district police stations will conduct joint emergency duty, patrolling multi-use facilities frequented by citizens regularly until the emergency response posture is lifted. To ensure rapid response in case of an emergency, the Bundang District Public Health Center has formed a response team consisting of medical staff, ambulances, and administrative personnel to be on standby, and plans to actively cooperate with police and fire departments to enable real-time on-site apprehension.

The police investigation to apprehend the author of the online post predicting the crime is ongoing. Previously, on the 18th, an anonymous online community post stated, “I will stab 30 people at Yatap Station at 6 p.m. on the 23rd,” adding, “Recently, my parents abandoned me and my friends ignore me, so I was going to commit suicide but decided to post this.” When other netizens criticized him, he posted an additional message saying, “I will also set fires. Won’t anyone comfort me even once?” The author also attached a map image capturing the area near Yatap Station to the post. Around 4 p.m. the next day, while police patrols and investigations were underway, another post appeared on the same online community stating, “The police cars came, and they are really trying to find me. Keep looking hard, I’m at Yatap now.” The police plan to verify whether the author of this additional post is the same person as the original once apprehended.

The Bundang Police Station has intensified patrols around Yatap Station since the afternoon of the 18th, the day the report was received. Since the previous day, about 40 police officers, including one riot squad unit (20 personnel) and three mobile patrol teams (24 personnel), have been deployed for focused patrols. The police plan to maintain intensive patrols until the predicted crime date on the 23rd. If the suspect is not apprehended by then, they plan to adjust the scale of personnel deployment and continue patrols for the time being. Additionally, the police have requested related agencies to delete the problematic posts and block access to them.
